Heal the Sick
And, when He had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease…[He said] ‘And as you go, preach, saying, “The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Heal the sick.” Matthew 10:1, KJV, 7-8 NKJV
Jesus told them to heal the sick. That was a distinct command! It was not a request. Just as He told them to preach the gospel, He told them to heal the sick. We see here the two specific themes that form the basis for this book’s title, Heal the Sick!. The first thing to realize is that Jesus told them to do the healing. He did not tell them to pray for the sick, to beg and plead for God to do something. He told them to heal the sick. He showed them how to do it, gave them power and authority to do it, and sent them out with a command that said go preach the good news and heal the sick.
All these years we had been praying for the sick and asking Him to heal them. We see Jesus praying to His Heavenly Father and then going and healing the sick, but it is not recorded anywhere that He asked His Father to heal anyone. He prayed to His Father and then went out and dispensed power and love in the form of healings and miracles.
